Ventura County Newborn Photography by Fiona Kaye Safety Always
As a Ventura County newborn Photography studio we know that we are dealing with fragile human beings so safety always during photoshoots is paramount. In both posed and organic newborn sessions the newborns range from five to 30 days old. They are new to this world and are in a rapid stage of growth and development. In documenting the memories of these babies with their families safety as it at the forefront.
How is Safety Always Valued?
Safety is valued from inception of the studio where despite having a child of my own I took it upon myself to train with industry leaders in newborn photography to learn how to hold, pose and care for babies during their photoshoots. I can tell when baby is in uncomfortable, would like to feed or needs a break to cuddle with mom. This is also followed by training in infant CPR and being up to date with vaccinations.
Safety Always is enforced by a number of things:
Having a Spotter: This is a person who is always near the baby when posing to ensure there is a second pair of hands to calm baby or should baby move from a posed position or in a prop. Newborn babies during the early days have jerk movements and can move quickly. The spotter is there in anticipation of these movements to keep them safe always.
Having a warm studio: This is a hard one for most parents! They come in to find studio warm as this is to help baby when some poses call for baby to be undressed and yet they were used to the warmth of their mothers womb. A warm studio keeps them comfortable and asleep especially for those curled poses parents love.
Checking circulation: During the photoshoot baby may be in certain positions that must be kept on their circulation to ensure they are safely posed and circulation is not being cut off from being in a pose for too long.
Not forcing certain poses: This is mainly in posed newborn sessions where the newborns are posed in womb like positions. These positions come naturally and their limbs are still limber. However, some newborns cannot do certain poses due to their size, or preference and as much as a parent would like a certain pose if baby expresses discomfort or cannot be posed in a particular way they are not forced.
Composite images: This is another way safety always is practiced in the studio. Certain posed newborn images are a series of different images where the spotter is holding the baby at all times. These images are then edited to remove the spotter. This is a safe way to make beautiful art without compromising the safety of the baby.
